The Official Handover!

Who knows what the road ahead is like?!

Overview: To drive a £200, woefully underpowered, wholly unsuitable 19 year old car 10,000 miles through 18 countries in 4 weeks from sunny England to even more sunny Mongolia.

The Reason: To raise as much money as we can for three fine Charities who desperately need your money to help the poor and needy.

Why?: Because its there to do – and we can!

Backup Support: Quite frankly, none whatsoever. We are completely on our own from the moment we set off to the moment we get there.

The Utopian View: We are relying purely on, nice kind border officials, a reliable motorcar, good weather, quality roads, informative maps and helpful local people to help us out (err……..right!?)

The Reality: No amount of prior planning can possibly legislate for the sublime, the ridiculous and the damn right unbelievable so I imagine we will be on a wing and a prayer for most, if not the entire journey.

The Costs: The bonus of not being in the Official Rally means that all the money we raise will go to Charity, and not swallowed up in admin costs and entry fees by the organisers.

Andy’s Mum has kindly donated the car for the cause (though I must stress she has NEVER ever owned a Ford Fiesta!) and Mark and his mates have done some fine work to get the car ‘rally ready’.

We are obviously going to keep the costs to a minimum by rough camping where we can along the route, buying cheap and nasty fuel, eating freeze dried peas, as well as not doing any laundry but there will be visa costs, insurance, ferries, bribes to dodgy cops etc that we will have to endure. Any help with these would be greatly appreciated.

But what we really want……………..is YOU!!

The Target: In our sights we have a target of £10,000  modest I know but if we can smash that then happy days!

What’s in it for you?!: We are aiming to get national and local media coverage for our mission, which means your name/ company logo plastered all over the car, plenty of photos on our website as well as a full mention on the website which we will hope will be viewed by millions.

For anyone who donates a £1000 or more we will come to your workplace/ home/ pub and do a presentation with photos, show you where your kind donation has gone and regale you with the inevitable amusing stories that will accompany this adventure – so go for it!

How do I donate? You should be able to donate through the information on this website or you can contact either of us directly if you wish to discuss anything further.

We have a Pay Pal account, a joint bank account with the HSBC and an address you can send money to if you so desire but if you are unsure about anything please dont hesitate to give us a call:

Plan B: All good Overlanders have a Plan B don’t they?! Err – no! But we WILL get to Ulaanbaatar (the capital of Mongolia) somehow – preferably in one piece, with the car intact. However, if the unforgivable happens and we blow up in the desert or sink in the mud, we will hijack a camel and continue regardless. There will be no surrender!!

Exit Strategy: If we make it as planned we will sell the car for charity/ scrap and head back on the Trans-Siberian train to Moscow and then blag a lift through Europe on the back of a truck or something! But if the car is in half decent nick, we will attempt to driver her all the way back through Russia - but don't hold your breath!!

Many thanks to Wayne for stickering the car!
